Sonab OA-14 speakers. One pair of rare, Scandanavian, upward firing, floor standing speakers that represented breakthrough technology in the 1970's. These are highly sought after speakers among audiophiles in Europe. They are easily upgradeable, long after the foam surrounds have disintegrated on the original woofers. I replaced the original 6.5" Peerless woofers with new 6.5" drop-in Dayton DC160-8 woofers, but I've kept the original woofers, contemplating sending them out to be re-foamed ($27 each to re-foam). (The original Peerless woofers will be included with the speakers). The speaker's unique driver placement (upward firing) creates a soundfield that makes the walls and boundaries disappear. The sense of spaciousness (height, depth, width) was remarkable for a speaker of that era. The center-fill between the speakers locates instruments and voices in proper position, front and back. Ever feel as though the 3 dimensional space is so real you could pick up a rock and throw it to the back wall of the stage? The sonab OA-14's create that illusion. The best thing about them is that they are easily restorable and upgraded. These speakers are a dream to use with tube electronics, presenting a very easy load with high efficiency. Designed to be placed against a rear wall, the speakers are unobtrusive - they don't take over the living space for optimal performance. The pair I am selling is in walnut veneer, and has had a modification, the speaker wire was wired directly to the crossover network. Audiophiles who know of this speaker need no introduction. I'm pricing these speakers to move fast - $375 for the pair. The bad news is that it is pickup only in the New Haven, CT area. I will not ship them. It would cost considerably more for me to find proper protective cartons and packing due to the weight of each speaker. TECHNICAL DATA Sonab OA-14:
