For sale is a Fairchild 412-2 dual-belt turntable. Two speeds - 33.3 and 45. Pop-up 45 adapter built in to the heavy aluminum platter. Nice bearing and well engineered turntable. The pics don't fully show it but a thick metal box holds the platter bearing, motor, pulleys, and speed changing dial.

This 1950s turntable was built to last, overbuilt really, much like the Thorens TD124 and Garrard 301. I believe this Fairchild was more expensive then either the 301 or TD124 when it came out.

According to a 1958 Billboard advert, the Fairchild 412 (one speed only) came out in 1957, followed by the Fairchild 412-2 (33.3 and 45 speeds) in 1958 and was priced at $129.50! - nearly the equivalent of $1,000 in todays dollars!

I have had this turntable for a few years and it has mostly sat idle due to other projects. I purchased replacement belts from LP Gear and they worked fairly well and should still be available. Included is an unused replacement belt for the smaller, inner belt that goes from the motor to a pulley. The original smaller belt is still installed. The speed is a little fast when I recently checked it which I attribute to a belt issue.

The turntable uses the famous Pabst motor from West Germany, same model used on the coveted Empire turntables and Rek-o-kut turntables. The motor works wonderfully and the turntable has always powered on and come up to speed with no issues, other than being a little fast at present. This Fairchild holds its own with the aforementioned cult turntables and much cheaper to boot!

The turntable came with a Rega RB250 when I purchased the unit. This sale is for the turntable only, no tonearm.

The turntable mat pictured is one I made out of thin foam and works quite well. I will include the mat that came with the turntable as well - no idea if this was the original or not. Also included (if I can find it is a copy of the original manual - which took me forever to find!).

Shipping in the continental U.S. only although local pickup is preferred. I know how to pack turntables and have sold several via ebay and once sold a Technics SP-15 here on VA. Platter will be removed, packaged, and secured in the bottom of the box. The stock plinth provides additional protection to the remaining parts. Did not weigh the turntable (35 lbs. is only a guess) to get an exact weight but I only charge actual shipping costs, including insurance and tracking, along with $10 to cover packing materials (I tend to get a little crazy with packing!).

Please contact me at nocoastjazz@gmail.com or (312) 502-2844 and ask for Troy. I have been a member of VA for several years under hardbop33 or hardbop33@hotmail.com but recently reregistered under nocoastjazz because my hotmail account was hacked.

Thanks!
