Here is my Scott LK-72B integrated tube amplifier that I'd just finished recapping up for sale. I'd done alot of other work to it too, which I will specify later, but I'm needing to sell it since I have not worked in about a month. The LK-72B is a kit version of the Scott 299D and is a great sounding tube amplifier. I've played this amplifier for long sessions for about four or five days with no problems and the bias has stayed steady. Here is what I have done to this amplifier: The filter can caps have been replaced with two 32/32uf 500V and one 50/50uf 500V electrolytic can caps. The four section bias can cap has been rebuilt with four Nichicon KZ 100/100 capacitors. The 4uf under-chassis electrolytics have been replaced with 3.9uf Solen polypropylenes.
The bridge rectifier has been replaced with a modern silicon type and a dropping resistor has been added to compensate the silicon's efficiency. The amp section's coupling caps have been replaced with Russian K-40Y paper-in-oil capacitors. The preamp section's coupling caps were replaced with MultiCap RTX s. The phono section caps were replaced with Russian K-40Y PIOs. Also, two one watt 68 ohm resistors were changed out to 2 watt Shinkoh tantalums. Each of the output tube's cathodes are tied to ground with a 10 ohm 1/4 watt metal film resistor which also acts as a fuse to protect the output transformers in case one of the output tubes should happen to short out. Test points have also been installed so that biasing and balancing of both channels can be done from the top of the chassis and removing the bottom plate is not necessary. The output 7591A tubes are Amperex branded (print is barely readable) and all test strong @ 111,110,111,& 111 on my B&K 707 tester. (66 is minimum 'good') The rectifier is a 1959 Mullard wide base double O-getter 5AR4 / GZ34. The 6GH8As are made in France. The four 12AX7s are all foreign made (2 Siemens, 1 Mullard, & 1 ?) with the seams on top of the glass. Like I said, the amplifier sounds great and has no hum and has been running well for several days. I have not checked out the phono section, but have no reason to think it wouldn't sound great as well. I would like to keep it if I could afford to, but I need to pay some bills off at this time.
