(Updated Verbage 2-16-12)

Hi All,

This is an interesting sale of a terrific sounding pair 300B "Putnam Park" monoblock amplifiers hand built by Larry D. Moore of Ultra Fi.

Each monoblock uses one 300B, one 6SN7 and two diode damper tubes. They feature Cardas RCA jacks and speaker binding posts. Each has an IEC power inlet and on/off switch on the rear and a hum pot on the top. They use James output transformers, Mil-spec power transformers, Hammond chokes and filament transformers as well as Panasonic THSA and Angela PIO capacitors. They are point to point wired and in walnut chassis'. In short, they are very fine sounding 300B amplifiers with excellent extension and bass due to Solid State rectification.

I am placing them for sale as I have a much more expensive 845 amp that I like a bit better but these amps are too good to be sitting idle and need to be enjoyed by someone else. Yes, these amps are really sweet, but they are a bargain price and here is why; these two amps were structurally and cosmetically damaged in transit. In the interest of full disclosure, here is their life story in short:

I purchased these amps from Larry Moore in 2006 for $2,200.00. This price included a pair of Valve Art 300B tubes and the 4 required diode dampeners tubes (No 6SN7 tubes or power cords were supplied). When I received them, I was having a bit more hum than I wanted so I packed them up to send them back to Larry for the installation of hum pots. During transit to Mr. Moore, they were drop kicked by FX and never even made it to their final destination. Unfortunately for me FX never paid me for any damages.

I will not pull punches, the amp's chassis were heavily damaged. One of the top plates is badly bent and pulled out the chassis top-plate screws at the rear. The second amp faired much better, yet there is still some minor damage. The wood frames of both units were damaged as well. One of the chokes came loose inside and scarred things up a bit, but there was no damage (other than cosmetic) to any of the components of either amp. Now here is the good news. Nothing was damaged electrically and severe cosmetic damage was limited to the chassis and top plates. There are scrapes and scars on a few internal items and a couple of minor scrapes on the Transformers. All items were carefully and correctly reinstalled by yours truly and the hum pots added per Larry Moore's direction. Both amps play beautifully and with the addition of the hum pots are very quiet on my 96db speakers. I had zero functional issues the entire time I have owned these amps. They were my main amps for one year prior to completion of my 845 amp. They have been idle since, with the exception of the check out noted below. While the amps were in my system, I used another pair of 300B tubes in them, so the Valve Art tubes have 50 hours on them at most--they are basically new.

Prior to listing these amps I put them back in my system for a few days to check them out. They still sound fabulously 300B, rich and warm, but with great bass and a spacious stage. They really give my other amp a nice run for the money. After checking them for operation, I documented in pictures my packaging for shipping in two separate packages, each double boxed. I'm not sure of the weight, I guessed 25lbs each box.

Please note: Pictures in this ad are current as of two weeks ago. So you can see that from a few feet away in the front you can't really tell they have damage. You really have to look.

More pictures of the amps and packing are available upon request.

I suspect most Inmates will balk at checking these amps out, but while they may be somewhat ugly upon close inspection, the play beautifully in their current condition. It would be a fairly simple job for a DIY-type to rebuild them into new chassis'.

The bottom line is this: if you hide them, you'll think you got a bargain!

I am asking $1100.00 for the pair, including one pair of Valve Art 300B Tubes, and four dampener tubes (6SN7 input tubes and power cords are NOT included). Payment via U.S. Postal Money Order preferred. A Local sale would be preferred and I will be glad to make delivery arrangements within Central Indiana. While I encourage good offers, I will keep these amps rather than giving them away, so lowball offers will be politely ignored.
