It is time to let my PV-5 finds a new home. There are plenty of write-ups about this classic preamp on the net.
I bought mine in 2008. Based on the serial# 1612544, Ed at cj told me that the unit was made in 11/1987. The previous owner had the PV-5 fully modified by Bill Thalmann of Music Technology in 2005. As a result of Thalmann's work, the Balance control is by-passed to maximize sonic benefits. Most interior components, including all electrolytic capacitors and wiring, are changed out with better parts; it should have many years of services. I had the line section tubes replaced (Electro-Hamonix, Sovtek etc.) and they are no more than 300 hours in service. The phono section still has the Mullard tubes in it. I will include a new set of phono tubes in the sale (2x EH 12ax7, 1 Sovtek 5751 and 1 5965).
Appearance is excellent except two 4" hair-line scratch on the top cover. The front plate and silkscreen lettering are all in like new condition.
The PV-5 comes with a new OEM box, owner manual (and some old audio rag reviews if you like). Noted that if you buy a stock PV-5 and have Bill Thalmann provides the full-mod option, you are looking at a great deal more in total cost. Please include a 3% fee for paypal.
