Up for sale is a rare NRG a201s pure class A reference stereo amp. This is not a well-known giant killer but anyone who has ever auditioned it says the same thing, “one of the best sounding amps they have ever heard” or “krell , levinson, or threshold competitor” or “giant killer”. In fact a Unity Audio speaker designer used its younger sibling, an NRG 150s, at as many as 22 CES shows. This has had little use from the previous owner and myself included, I just have too much stuff and need to sell. Sonics: Those of you who know me understand I am not into the whole complimentary distortions thing. No "Put a rolled off tube amp to fix a bright speaker" deal. I am into transparency. This is the best sounding amp I have ever encountered. What does it sound like? Whatever you feed it with open and effortless. It is a fully balanced design, but sounds equally great single ended (how many amps can you say that about?). Bottom line: If you need the power and want a smoother presentation, this will fit the bill.Specs: Power is 200 watts per channel @ 8 Ohms with good heft (200 watts per channel at 8 ohms, 400 at 4 ohms and 800 at 2 ohms). Safety features alert you to any clipping onset and will protect your speakers and itself in case of overload. Will drive low impedance loads like Wilson Audio speakers.Condition: Rated 7/10 mostly because of age. Perfect faceplate and handles, heatsink may have a small nick or two, definitely not noticeable unless you are looking for it. It has very low hours on it and is in great condition. It does run a little warm. You may want to have the bias turned down if you live in a warm climate.Shipping: The last owner was very particular about his equipment like me and had a custom crate made for it out of plywood with foam insulation lining with chain handles for shipping. Local sale is preferred because of the weight (150+ lbs), but if buyer makes shipping arrangements I will carefully pack in custom freight crate. call or text 563-370-2337.
