For sale is my build of the Neurochrome Modulus-686 amplifier as designed by Tom Christiansen. It uses 6 LM3886 chips per channel. This amp is designed to provide high power at very low distortion in class AB output. Input sensitivity is about 2v for full output power (26db gain). The amp weighs 42 pounds and is about 18 x 18 x 8 inches. If you are not familiar with this amp or its lower power cousins, check out the link in the ad. Using an Antek AN 6225 transformer, it provides +/- 33.5 vdc rails, so it is rated for about 200 watts RMS into 8 ohms and 300 watts into 4 ohms. I am extremely happy with the sound, but do not need this high wattage amp in my present setup. All Neurochrome boards are used: Power 686, ISS (intelligent soft start), Modulus-686, and Gueardian 686. The amplifier has soft startup, no turn on or turn off pops. The Guardian 686 boards provide speaker protection circuitry. The amp is housed in a 5U, 400mm deep Dissipante chassis from HiFi 2000. It has upgraded anti-vibration feet. The back plate has added supports so no flexing is noted when plugging in wires. The front plate is 10mm thick aluminum with only the status LED on front, red for standby and green for on. The chassis is in very good shape but might have a couple small knicks and superficial scuffs. I rate the project 7/10 due to the DIY nature of the amplifier. This is a balanced circuitry amplifier with only Neutrik XLR inputs, but you could use xlr-rca adapters if you wish. 5 way binding posts are gold plated from Vampire. No power cord is provided in the sale, you get to use your favorite. The amplifier is dead quiet when on. It provides great bass and accurate music reproduction. I really like it but do not need the power. It runs cool to the touch, unless pushed hard, and i was never able to barely get the heatsinks warm... Sale at my asking price will include UPS ground shipping. Sale to the continental USA only.
