Up for sale is a very special, one of a kind Threshold 400A. This is very likely the best sounding 400A on the entire planet. In late 2010, a total restoration of this unit was undertaken. There is over 1,000.00 dollars in parts alone in this unit, not to mention the many labor intensive hours to accomplish the work. A complete re-build kit was sourced from vintage amp repair, including (but not limited to) all new output transistors, Mills emitter resistors, new INXS rectifier, new power supply caps, Cardas binding posts and jacks, etc. Along with all that, the technician re-built the driver boards, new audiophile resistors, `new internal wiring, power cord, power switch. This is essentially a new 400A, all with higher quality audio parts than those used for initial production. The restoration was completed over the winter of 2011/2012, and has seen limited use since then. It’s barely broken in since the rework was completed. The work was performed by a local New England gentleman who makes both tube and solid state amps for well-heeled audiophiles throughout the USA. Just take a look at the pictures; and his superior workmanship is obvious. I’m the second owner of this. I bought this from the original owner back in 2010. I had this work accomplished for a number of reasons, and I had every intention of keeping this forever. However, circumstances change, and I need to down size to make room. The unit is a 7 of 10 cosmetically, but an 11 of 10 electrically, better than new by a lot. The original output transistors were know to fail occasionally, but these devices were the ones used by Threshold in the later S series amps, which are rated MUCH higher. This amp will last another 20 to 30 years, no question. Asking price is 1400.00, include shipping to lower 48. Still have the original oversized box from Threshold, which is in excellent shape. Will cover pay pal fees. If you are a collector of Nelson Pass gear, this item is MUST. I had intended to collect Pass gear myself, but it just did not work out. Feel free to ask questions.
