REDUCED yet again! Rotel RDD 980 transport with Philips CDM9 (little sister of the CDM9pro) Arguably the CDM9 is the end of the line for the higher quality Philips transports. A link has been provided to a Dutch site that has a lot of info of most every player or transport made.
I have a P.S. Audio Lambda mk1 with the CDM9 pro and it performs duty in my main system. Just checked out per/request to ascertain that optical works and it works fine. Deck very quiet. Had to press ear ONTO the chassis to actually hear it was running. All functions are accessible by the remote except cd tray "open"--that is done by button on front panel. Tray can be closed by remote and all other functions work. Assume this was by design as there is no "open" on remote.
The build quality on this would never be matched without spending much more $ these days and at this price quite a nice vintage transport for the price. No operational issues and does its job. This Rotel is a back up that never needed to be used as a backup and has been in storage in my closet. I of course have used it a few times and I ordered the replacement remote (Rotel RR924)for it 14yrs ago from a company and I wonder if it is even available these days. Audiogon bluebook says new retail was $700. My take on this transport was it was Rotels offering of a entry level high end transport in response to the heyday of transports being made in the 90's. Introduced 1995 comes with remote , no manual. has some blems on the front face top edge and top of chassis but certainly looking quite good considering its age. I put a door belt (easy to do) on it a few years back and some parts still available for these. Will be well packed as is my obsession --see my fb on Audiogon/same user name as here. buyer pays for actual cost of shipping and I will eat PP.
