Note: Non-working. I purchased this Yamaha DVD-S1700 DVD-Audio/Video SACD player new 1/07 and it developed a problem playing DVD-Rs about six months ago. It was either playing the first minute or so of a track and and then skipping to the next track or not playing DVD-R's at all. It was playing SACDs, DVD-Audios, DVD-Videos and CDs perfectly. So I thought I would try to see if I could fix the problem of it not reading DVD-R's. I took off the cover and tried to get to the laser lens as I have read of people fixing reading problems by cleaning the lens with alcohol. I couldn't get close enough so I used compressed air. Well, I really messed up the player as it now won't play any type of disc at all.Only $25 total with Free UPS shipping to USA! That's almost Free! Perhaps it can be repaired, or perhaps it can be used for parts, it is a bargain for the Terra Firma Lite Mod alone. Cosmetically the Yamaha DVD-S1700 DVD-Audio/Video SACD player is in perfect like new condition, with remote control, cables, owner's manual and service manual shipped in original box. Includes the following extras:
• Terra Firma Lite Clock mod (see photos below)
• Terra Firma Lite Clock mod instructions
• Service manual on CD-R The original retail of the DVD-S1700 was $450.00 and the Terra Firma Lite Clock mod is $1,600.00 See Positive Feedback for my review of the modification: What a difference a clock makes - the Terra Firma Lite Clock mod (see link above) I took tender loving care of it and it is perfect in every way. First picture is: front view of S-1700 Second picture is: Internal view of the unmodified S-1700 Third picture is: Internal view of the modified S-1700 Fourth picture is: Rear view of the modified S-1700 The sonic improvement with SACDs is quite profound, with considerably more impact and power in the deep bass, warmer midrange, and smoother highs. Also a larger and deeper soundstage, all of this just from a change from the stock clock to the Terra Firm lite clock. The improvement with DVD-Audios was only slightly less profound, excellent deep bass when it was present, less warmth than SACDs however still a major improvement.
This mod brings my player beyond the level obtained in any of my previous players including the tubed Xindak SCD-2 which retailed for $1699. Packed in original manufacturer's shipping carton. Payment must be made by Postal Money Order, or Cash if coming to Reno in person. Click "Contact Seller" below for address. No other forms of payment accepted as I have no bank account and no credit cards.
