I am selling my beloved SimAudio Moon I-5080 Integrated. This model was the smaller, but more powerful baby brother to the highly acclaimed Moon I-5 integrated. The Moon I-5080 was one of the best values on the market when it was new, playing way outside of it's class performance-wise. As a piece of used equipment, the value is ridiculous, especially when compared with Sim's newer offerings. This model offers the transparency and power that has become synonymous with SimAudio's "house sound."This integrated is a solid and heavy piece of equipment, and is extremely well designed. It is rated conservatively at 80 wpc at 8 ohms, and doubles its output to 160 wpc at a 4 ohm load. It is classified as Class A up to 5 watts (Class A/AB after 5 watts). Part of the heft of the unit is due to the enormous power supply. The way this integrated plays music is effortless, transparent and colorless. I am amazed at how this amplifier helps strip bare music that I have heard hundreds of times before and reveals new details. The soundstage is enormous, with the instruments seeming to be pulled apart and floating in their own individual space. Combined with my Vandersteen 2CE Sigs, this was a magical combination of amp and speaker. The face of the unit is simple, showing a brief display of the input, and then the volume level in a digital number (0-50). There are five line level inputs, with the fourth being switchable to a home theater-style full power mode (if you use with a source component that has its own volume control). I had bought this unit back in 2003 as part of my first true audiophile system. It has survived many front-end changes, and only recently was replaced with a set of Rogue Tube amps because my Vandersteen 2WQ sub required separates. Included with the unit is the manual, a small remote control, and the original box and packaging. Rated 8/10 for age, as the unit is practically flawless. I am entering only a weight estimate, as the packaging will determine final weight.
