So... I will freely confess to being biased here. I worked at Sony for the best part of 20 years and have a couple handfuls of products, near and dear to my heart, that stood above all the others as the most capable and compelling that Sony could make. If it tells you anything, I've actually owned several of these over the years (including a couple basket cases that were sacrificed to restore others).

For any who might not already know, the 808 was Sony's $1800 flagship integrated amp in the early/mid 90s. Personally I think that has way less to do with the old inflation trope ($1800 then would cost X today) and much more to do with what a company of Sony's considerable engineering and manufacturing resources could accomplish for $1800 vs. a much smaller volume manufacturer. This is an amplifier all about paying attention to the little details that make for great music, including:

* liberal use of premium parts throughout (Nichicon Muse, Chemicon, Elna Cerafine caps, etc.) * advanced materials like the G "Gibraltar" chassis (a mix of polyester, calcium and carbon used in the base and top plate to damp and dissipate vibration) * high-end design and engineering practices (all FET signal path from input to output, massive power supply, etc.) * great features including full phono capability with moving magnet and variable (3 ohms/40 ohms) moving coil loading, as well as a direct source input to bypass all switching and controls except volume

This 808 is in almost perfect 9/10 working condition (note: the front door that covers the secondary controls works fully but is less smooth in operation than when new) and very good, but by no means perfect, cosmetic condition. I'd grade it a 7/10 cosmetically. The front panel is almost perfect except for one small dink on the bottom left edge and one on the top right edge (see attached close-ups), there is some light to medium scratching and scuffing on the top and sides of the case (again, see attached pictures). In actual use it presents really well and sounds like a million bucks, with the hallmark big, vivid, punchy, sound the 808 is known for. I do not have the original box or remote, however I have deep experience in packing fragile gear for safe shipping.

I am happy to answer any questions you may have in order to make an informed decision. Asking $700 + shipping/PayPal (if applicable). I have a copy of the owner's manual. I do not have the original factory carton but have deep experience packing fragile items for shipping and safe arrival to the new owner. I will only ship within the continental U.S. to your registered PayPal address. Note: while I haven't listed anything here in some time, I do have extensive feedback on both U.S. Audiomart (same user ID) and Ebay (user ID = Mfectd_2007)
