This is ONLY a new, unused, never-mounted LP Jacket Cover "Slick," which is the outer paper that is wrapped and glued over a LP jacket's cardboard shell.

MEANING: THIS AUCTION IS NOT NOT NOT FOR AN LP!!!!!

THERE IS NO LP IN THIS AUCTION.

JUST A PRINTED PIECE OF PAPER THAT USUALLY WOULD BE MADE INTO AN LP JACKET.

THE UNMOUNTED PRINTED SLICK MEASURES 17 X 28 INCHES.

In the early 1980s, Arturo Delmoni came to my attention because his then girlfriend and my then girlfriend were friends, and Arturo was in residency at the summer music festival at Rhode Island College. I heard him playing chamber music, and I was so bold to ask permission for me to prospect for a record deal for him. Despite my total lack of real-world experience in that realm.

I chatted up the couple that ran the independent record label SQN (for Sine Qua Non)about their possibly releasing a recording to be funded and owned by Arturo Delmoni, and licensed to them. That deal fell through, but in the fullness of time "Songs My Mother Taught Me" was released first on North Star Records LP, and then on MFSL CD. Both formats are very collectable and very sought after.

However, MFSL phased out aluminum CDs and North Star was not interested either, so I took the rights back, but first I wanted to get the LP back into circulation, so I did that by asking Bob Ludwig, who was still working in NYC at the time, to cut the LP. I also had the LP cover re-designed, and had a much better printing job done.

Why do I think people will want to buy a 30-year old unmounted LP-jacket printed slick? ANSWER: to decorate their listening spaces!

The quick and easy way will be to have a professional framing shop dry-mount the printed slick to a foamcore board, and then stiffen the board with a rectangular frame of stretchers glued to the back side, and then hang it on your listening-room wall.

I strongly advise doing that, rather than framing the printed slick under glass. Framing with glass will be expensive and heavy and will just add another uncontrolled reflective surface to your listening environment.

The more laborious way, but with a nice payoff, would be to send the slick out for professional scanning, and then send the digital image file to a company that makes acoustical panels with custom images printed on the fabric scrim.

The nice part of that is that because you will be working with a hi-res file of a scan of the full-size original, your acoustical panel can be larger than the printed paper slick--say, 2 x 3 feet or more. Or, you could crop the full digital image scan down to show just the front LP cover, and have the acoustical panel made of that. I am researching people to do that, and by the time this auction closes, I should be able to give recommendations. But I expect that such a custom panel will cost a not-inconsiderable sum of money. I'd guess, at least $200, depending on size.

The printed slick will be shipped in a mailing tube, but foreign buyers might have to pay for an outer box large enough to hold the Customs papers.

And, if someone wanted me to autograph the slick in the lower left corner, I could do that.

The cover art is by Eliza D. Gardiner, a very significant printmaker in the early part of the 20th century. Her images often involved children. So, the cover art is something of a reference to the title track, "Songs My Mother Taught Me," even though the backstory of the Dvorak art song is more complicated than just a boy with a cat.
