This is a step-up transformer for low output moving coil cartridges. I used this step-up transformer with an Ortofon SL-15 cartridge for about 3 months but then moved on to another transformer. It has been sitting unused in my drawer for too long and it deserves a new home.
As you can see in the photo there are two minor scratches on the top of the transformer but that is just cosmetic. The cable is 16 inches long and the connectors are clean and shiny. It is in great shape and works as it is supposed to.
There seems to be several different versions of this transformer around. Some have a frequency response of 20 Hz-50 kHz and load impedance of 10-50 kOhm. This one here has the following specifications:
Frequency response: 10 Hz-50 kHz, Pick-Up Impedance: 2-3 Ohm, Recommended load Impedance for stereo: 47 kOhm and 100kOhm for CD-4. Because the CD-4 format is mentioned on this transformer I am guessing it is one of the earlier versions and it must have come out after 1972. I can not tell you how it sounds with cartridges other than the Ortofon SL-15 as I have never tried it with other MCs. It is my understanding that this transformer works best with low output moving coils below 0.5mV but that is just something I researched online. My SL-15 cartridge has an output of 0.04 mV and the transformer worked very well with it. Buyer pays for shipping. Email me with questions, offers or for more pictures.
