This is a vinatge Yamaha CR-800 stereo receiver. The 800 is very clean and works well. The knobs, controls and switches are all original and move freely,no drag,no noise..cleaned and lubed. The dial lamps were replaced. The wood cabinet looks very nice..no cuts very small and very minor scratches,..The face is clean, all knobs cleaned,Tuner works well.output is good..here is more on the Yamaha CR-800:
The CR-800 was TOTAL line until the famous CR-1000 came along. It contains the 4 gang tuning head and seperate AM and FM boards of the CT-800 which is one of Yamaha's best tuners ever. My CT-600, itself a wonderful tuner, has simplified circuitry with one shared AM/FM board. The transformer and main caps are the same as the CA-800. Later series were not built to the same standard as the x00 ones. The CR-820 that followed was lighter, had a 3 gang tuner and lost the Pre-Out/Main in jacks.
Some of the other features are 2 phono inputs, 2 tape inputs plus AUX and 2 each high and low filters. All up weight is over 30lbs.
In 1974 the CR-800 retailed for $580 US, probably about twice that in Canada. The later CR-1020 in comparison had a price of only $560. The only classic vintage Yamaha receivers that are clearly superior to the 800 would be the CR-1000, 2020, 2040 and 3020. Besides being one of the most attractive and best balanced designs with the greatest flexibility, the CR-800 is the best sleeper, under the radar deal in Yamaha receivers.
