These are wonderful speakers with uniformly excellent reviews. Indeed, the reviewers have bought these speakers more often than not. The speakers are in perfect working order and excellent cosmetic condition. The Super 8s are detailed, transparent, and above all, coherent. Solid, articulate bass into the mid-30s. Nuanced and beautiful mids and highs. The tweeter is the same model John DeVore uses in his flagship Silverback Reference. I have paired these speakers with both a Cary Sli-80 F1 40-watt tube amp and a Simaudio I-5 LE 75-watt solid state amp. They sound fantastic with either. Bottom line, these speakers are transparent to the source and amplification. They are also sensitive (90 db) and because of an essentially flat impedance curve they are very easy to drive -- they were quite happy being driven by a 10-watt EL-84 tube amp in a small living room, though in a large room you would want more power. I’ve owned Proacs (three pair), Thiel and Merlin speakers and the DeVores, either the regular 8s which I owned previously, or especially the Super 8s, are substantially better to my ears in every way. The speakers come with high-quality spikes, adjustable for height and rake, magnetic grills and the original owner's manual. I have the original boxes and will carefully pack. I bought them locally from a fellow Audiogoner who had bought them from a local dealer so the boxes have never been shipped. I am rating these an 8 because of faint scratches, two less than a quarter-inch long, near the bottoms of the the speakers, one on the front just above the logo, visible in one of the pictures, and one on the side near the bottom. Neither is noticeable unless you’re kneeling next to the speaker and look for them. There is one faint, shallow two-inch scratch from a spade connector on the back next to a speaker terminal and another on the bottom of one speaker. Neither of those are visible from the listening position. I did not use the grills but the previous owner did and the area under the grills is very slightly darker than the rest of the finish, unnoticeable except in strong light. Specs:
