Magnestand full-frame hardwood modified Magnepan MG-IIB planar speakers in mahogany and flame maple. Everybody knows these as "Gunned Maggies" (after the proprietor, John’s trade name of ’Peter Gunn’) and people who know Magnepans know what the full mod can do, both sonically and aesthetically.
No stone was left unturned when it came to modding these loudspeakers. John at Magnestand rebuilt these speakers using the best possible parts. Nothing was left to chance. There are Jupiter Beeswax caps in these speakers which are presently unavailable and made specially for John at Magnestand. The only reason they are for sale is because these speakers need more space to sound their best and will be too big for the new home we are moving to.The MG-IIB has exceptional midbass clarity and potency to begin with. Both of which have unquestionably been greatly enhanced over the base speakers. And obviously the aesthetic improvement is great, they wouldn’t be out of place in a Swedish billionaire’s living room. As furniture, the stock Magnepans have a bit of that "70’s" ambiance to them one must admit. If you want to get your own Maggies the Magnestand treatment, you have to book a spot with deposit at least 6 to 12 months in advance, it’s so popular. Instead buy mine. The MG-IIBS were purchased used and sent to Magnepan in early 2013 to have the panels completely rebuilt with new parts (price > $800 overall), and the full Magenstand modification was delivered in mid 2013 (> $2500). This includes the highest-end XO options and those prices don't include shipping. I can provide documentation from Magnepan for the repaneling and John has said that he can provide documentation of the mods he did via email.
