The first popular compact supermonitor, introduced in 1983. The English company's Graham Bank and Gordon Hadaway decided that, as the main source of coloration in a box speaker is the box, they would effectively do away with it by making it from the Aerolam material used in airplane construction. The copper-dome tweeter used in the SL-600 and its wooden-box SL-6 sibling also pioneered the resurgence of interest in moving-coil drivers with pistonic metal diaphragms. "Had anyone even 1) tried to make a compact monitor sound this uncolored, or 2) charge as much?" asks Wes Phillips. Nope. But what a sound!" According to tonearm designer/audiophile Thomas Schick: "This is definetly an unusual speaker in the tube scene. The sensitivity with 82dB/m is extremely low. However, it works surprisingly well with low powered tube amps. It is simply one of the best speakers ever built." Speakers have been tested for functionality and work fine. Fronts and drivers, including the unobtainable copper tweeters, are in perfect condition. Consecutive serial number pair. Some marks/scratches on each speaker which are almost impossible to avoid given the vintage of the speakers and the textured Nextel cabinets, otherwise very good condition. Will include a pair of black metal speaker stands with spikes, which I believe are Sound Organisation (stands are currently in storage). Imaging and soundstaging which are second to none.
