One Altec/Western Electric 756B speaker driver. In my opinion the 10” 756B is one of the finest speaker drivers ever made. It combines high sensitivity (approx. 96dB), very useful wide range (approx. 80hz – 3000hz) and the full rich sound that Altec/WE is known for. Altec/WE never sold the 756B separately, it was only available in the Melodist speaker system. Date code on the gasket is 12-54 which makes this speaker almost 70 years old!Combine it with a “helper” tweeter and subwoofer and you will have a world class speaker system. I have been using this speaker for approx. the last 8 years and it works perfectly. The cone is a little lighter in color than other 756Bs I have seen. It could be from fading, normal batch variance or some combination of both. Other than that, it looks and sounds like every other 756B that I have owned. As photo #4 shows, the DCR measurement is 5.3 ohms. This is a healthy DCR reading for this 8 ohm speaker. Check eBay, this is the lowest price 756A or B out there.
