Restored Pioneer PL-50 Belt Drive Turntable. Features semi-auto function, ( arm lifts and returns to post at end of record ). Heavy-duty construction, 4-pole hysteresis synchronous type motor, high quality S type static balance tonearm with lateral balance adjustment, magnetic anti-skate, and arm height screw for setting VTA. The headshell allows for azimuth adjustment of the cartridge, a very useful feature. Also, the large red illuminated pilot light next to the platter has a white line at the top, which is a bulit-in overhang gauge - a very helpful touch for cartridge alignment. Mounted in a beautiful real walnut veneer base with 4 spring adjustments on the bottom plate. Includes original Pioneer PC-35 Induced Magnet cartridge with newer replacement stylus and the drive belt was replaced about 5 months ago. The four feet are height adjustable.

The restoration details:

1. Disassembled main bearing/spindle assembly, replaced worn spindle thrust pad bearing in bearing well with a new long lasting Delrin type thrust pad, cleaned and filled bearing well with high quality Royal Purple Synfilm ISO 68 synthetic gear/bearing oil, cleaned, polished, and lubed spindle with Synfilm 68 oil.

2. Cleaned and oiled drive motor and belt pulley. Used Zoom Spout turbine oil for lubrication.

3. Cleaned and tested all linkages used for tonearm auto lift and return functions. Adjusted return linkage for correct distance and height. Cleaned platter rim of old belt debris.

4. Oiled walnut base.

Cosmetics: There is a small crack at the rear hinge area of the dust cover, other wise it is in better than average condition with the usual small scratches and cleaning swirls. Plinth surface has a small scratch at back left rear, and the walnut base a tiny chip near the bottom front,(all are visible in photos). Overall it rates very good in cosmetics. Has the original RCA phono connectors and ground wire and power cord, all in good condition. Owners manual and service manual are included in PDF on a CD-Rom.

The original Pioneer PC-35 cartridge that is included is a pretty decent little performer, similar to the sound of mid-priced Shure's of the era with a warm, full bodied presentation, decent bass and soft highs. It is a surprisingly good sounding older cartridge.

I know how to ship turntables, and will do the following for shipment:

1. Remove Platter, tonearm counter-weight, cartridge/headshell, drive belt, and pack separately.

2. The tonearm will be tied to its post with twist wire.

3. The dust cover will be removed from the base and packed with a barrier between it and the main unit.

I use heavy bubble wrap, styrofoam, and computer grade boxes for shipping. Shipped via FedEx insured. Box is large at 23x23x16 to allow for proper packing protection. Please email for shipping cost to your location. US and Canada only.

This unit is in very good condition, and all functions work as intended. Tonearm bearings are tight and arm moves freely in all planes. These Pioneers are rugged, very well made, and easy to maintain. The drive motor in these are huge, and the main base is solid and thick aluminum. You will be very happy with this fine vintage belt drive!
