For sale is a preamplifier that started as an earlier iteration of the K & K linestage with all rca connectors, but has now transformed into the third generation active output iteration (RAKK dac Mark III Active Output Stage) with mostly xlr connections.The steel case is the form factor still used by K & K, has internal dampening applied, and is quite stout. There are four inputs, switched with a Seiden switch. Three inputs are xlr, one is rca. Outputs are two paralleled xlr sets. Front panel controls are the input switch, stepped volume control (K & K stepped shunt attenuator), and on/off with a green status light. Knobs are exotic wood covered. There as some small scratches on the case front and top, so please do not expect a 9/10 case. The case has numerous extra holes drilled in it, mostly on the base, but two on the left side, and two in the back, from previous variations of the preamp. The circuit uses the Russian 6n6p tube, and I will provide three strong pairs. Output can be set for 6 or 12dB gain. The active output uses six cascode constant current sources, and these all have the appropriate spec'd IXYS 01N100 and 08N100d MOSFETs. This preamp is recommended for those comfortable working on live high voltage circuits, as the CCSs for the tubes and power supplies need checking occasionally. They hold their settings well, but still require some checking and tinkering. The unit runs warm (case temp is about 45 degrees C when warmed up. The sound is very crystalline, powerful and enjoyable. It is not a laid back tube preamp, but very truthful. It is very quiet, even in circuits with high efficiency speakers.
