I figured I'd post this here since there is no vintage category.

There are some of these consoles listed on the net and they are usually junk. This one is beautiful and sounds great! The cabinet is pristine and not just veneer like a typical American console, its solid Oak. The cloth is nice. And its a great unit. It's a tube Grundig Stereo 390US console. I am the second owner. The first owner took very good care of this as you can see. I have too. The turntable is in the top left bay and has a light that comes on when you open the door. The original (inferior) ceramic cartridge Grundig turntable was replaced with a better Dual 1215 with a magnetic Stanton cartridge. The mag phono preamp was recently upgraded to an NAD PP-1 ($129) for better sound. In the right top bay is a top loading Toshiba CD player. Top loading is rare but makes changing discs possible as this was originally a bay for a reel to reel option the original owner did not buy. It is only four inches deep so a top loader is a must. Although an earlier model it does read CDR's no problem.

The radio which is in the top center with its own door (not shown open sorry) is beautiful and the glass is perfect. The unit has AM, SW1,SW2 and FM. It also has the multiplexer option so it can play FM in stereo. The only option it does not have is the echo unit. AM of course tunes the standard AM band, SW1 tunes from 3.1 to 8 MHz . SW2 tunes 8 to 24 MHz. FM is 88-108 as it was produced for the American market. Often you find Grundigs that only tune 88-104 that were produced for Europe. Not this one! I pick up tons of stations. On short wave with a long piece of wire I got well over 100 stations on the bands. Time of day is important for best SW results. 6-9PM is a good time. This is a great tuner.

The radios white buttons all work there are 3 preset tone positions in the center, the AM,FM,SW1,SW2 buttons and a stereo/ mono switch and an AM antenna/FM AFC switch. There is a bass and treble knob as well. You can't see from the picture but the green eye tube for tuning is bright and works well. The unit has 6 speakers. Two 12" woofers in center front and two ovals on each side,.one facing front, one to the side. All speakers work properly and do not rattle. The woofers were re-coned around 1995 by The Speaker Factory on Rockville. There are receipts for this. You'll also note all the documentation is there. Owners manual, schematic, multiplexer schematic, various other docs. There is also a spare set of amplifier tubes(EL84) and a couple of other of the tubes.

So email with any questions or for extra pictures. I have many more of the sides, back, manuals, schematics and spare tubes etc. Come and listen to how great this thing sounds! Truly a rare find! You can put this in a room and its a conversation piece and a great sounding music system. Oh and even the back is perfect. There are three removable panel and they are in great condition too. Everything is nice on this thing. The glare in the pictures is from a recent coat of lemon oil. It has gone away now.
