Wadia 25 (x-as modified prototype) Digital Decoding Computer.

I am the 2nd owner. I bought this unit from a former technical supervisor at Wadia. The custom software was written for it when he worked at Wadia. This was and is the only unit in the world. It was not an off the shelf stock production W25. It was a prototype and designed as an eventual replacement for the W27.

The only resemblance this unit has to a stock W25 is the outer casework. Everything internal is a custom design with high performance parts that would be too expensive for a standard production unit. It uses the main digital to analog circuit board from a W861 for conversion. It has matched DAC chips, upgraded capacitors, Cardas connectors and blue LED's in place of the otherwise stock red ones. The power supply has slight variations of the original W25 transformers including better shielding.

This unit can accept any word length up to 24-bit. Three of its inputs can lock onto any incoming data rate up to and including 96kHz. Two LED's light for any incoming data rate above 48kHz. It can output 4.2 Vrms and is currently set for 2.1 Vrms and sensitivity adjustment instructions are provided. The unit runs cool to the touch. It has a better and flatter high frequency response than any of the W27 models. This W25 strips the clock signal and reclocks the data again using a TCXO.

Included with this unit are four screw in aluminum feet with their matching pucks, a female RCA to BNC adapter, the original power cord, the original owners manual and Wadia shipping box.

Additionally, a heavy metal aluminum remote that was never supplied with a production W25 is included. The brand new original plastic remote is also supplied. It has never been used.

Finally, I have a 30 page bound service manual which includes circuitry descriptions, internal color photos, top cover removal instructions, output level optimization instructions, circuitry drawings, etc.

Although I never required it, there is nothing here which cannot be serviced with parts which are still available. ARC will provide Wadia service. Although highly unlikely, if service would be necessary and you choose not to use ARC, I am providing a list of alternate facilities.

Regarding condition: This unit performs flawlessly. Cosmetically there are no scratches or dings. The front and rear panels are pristine and flawless. If you look at the photo of the top cover you will see a rectangle near the front center 4 1/2" x 2 1/4" slightly lighter than the surrounding area. This was my fault. If you look at the picture with the unit in the equipment rack you will see a brass treble clef on the unit. That has a felt base. For some reason that green felt reacted with the finish to make that slight discoloration. Also two LED's are not lit: Input #3-AES/EBU and the topmost Level LED. Functionally none of this has any consequence.

This was used in a dedicated smoke and child free room and never moved.

Reason for Sale: Replaced by Berkeley Audio Design Alpha DAC Reference Series.

I will ship to lower USA 48 and Canada using FedEx Ground. I estimate shipping charges in the USA would be approx. $75.00 insured.

I will accept PayPal, USPS Money Order or an official bank (not a certified or personal) check. For PayPal add 3%. Shipping and/or PayPal fees would be higher outside USA.

Outside the USA and Canada I will only accept a bank wire transfer. An international postal money order payable in US Dollars is also satisfactory.

Please note the unit is currently configured for US voltage.

My Audiogon & US Audio Mart feedback is 100% positive under Username Kodak805.
