Item Description Stereophile Class A
Remote control.
Requires a 12DC wall wart. Make and offer. Former dealer demo. The Original full size chassis MK II with aluminum case. This uses the large chassis that costs more and has better performance with more mass than the current MKII in the small chassis. Full featured with 4 RCA inputs and 2 XLR. Two RCA and two XLR outputs. Ground lift, switch for 6db of gain. This is NOT a resistive preamp that has no gain and takes away from the signal. This preamp is the closest to the ultimate preamp-"a straight wire with gain". It has no sound of its own and uses no AC or DC. Just the excellent Stevens and Billington Mark II transformers. S&B have been making transformers in England for over 60 years. The Music First preamps are the only place you can get these transformers. All hand wired. 24 step volume control. This model's baby brother beat out an $80K Kondo Japan preamp in a blind test. None of the magazines do blind tests. But everyone present choose the Music First Classic over the Kondo. If you want to stop looking for your next preamp, this is the one. This can only be beat in transparency and sound quality by the $9K Music First Baby Reference. The current smaller MK II nad the Baby Reference are both Stereophile Class "A". As mentioned, the larger chassis is no longer made and it performs much better than the current small chassis. The only drawback to the Music First preamps are that you will hear, for the first time, everything your system is capable of. You will also be spoiled and can never go back to any active-unless you like the changes to the pure signal that all other preamps produce.
