Gorgeous Hovland HP100 preamp with MM phono stage in excellent condition. I think it’s probably pretty safe to say in this case, pretty nearly pristine condition. The HP100 is noted for its luxurious cosmetics, including a glossy black, blue-backlit acrylic-lined case and oversized silver selectors. The reason you’ll love it, however, isn’t the construction but needless to say the sound. Which is refined, subtle, full of nuance and detail, and balanced from one end of the spectrum like no other preamp I have ever heard.The HP100 is a full-function preamp. You get a full complement of inputs and outputs, including an outstanding MM (46 dB) phono stage, and full tape loops. The volume control is a discrete-stepped resistor network, and the preamp includes a mono switch for those early vinyl discs. There is a liberal sprinkling of the famous MusiCap capacitors on the main board. In terms of signature, the HP100 just steps out of the way of the source material, and sends it to your power amp with the lightest possible touch. The Hovland pulls ahead of most others, I think, because of its seemingly unlimited finesse. It is outstanding with chamber or symphonic pieces, among others. I concur with all the glowing reviews.
