THIS IS NOW A "PRICE WILL FALL UNTIL SOLD" AD. I will incrementally lower the price, so watch, but do not be too slow to act, or you will miss them. The first full offer will be considered the first offer.

Daedalus Audio Ulysses speakers in medium Walnut finish, price $7,100. This set of Ulysses has the polycap upgrade, which I believe was $900. Sale price includes Maple hardwood custom stands cut to the same shape as the Daedalus cabinet, with Soundocity outriggers and adjustable spikes.

Speakers and stands condition rated very conservatively (I always rate the condition of equipment I sell strictly). There is some discoloration on the bottom of the speakers, which is only visible when the speaker is tipped on its side, and the felt on the bottom put on by Daedalus lifting on some corners. None of this is visible when the speaker is on its stand.

There are slight imperfections in the clear coat on the sides of the speakers. These mild imperfections, not from the factory, but from my use, are not visible except in bright direct light, and the speaker at a complementary angle to make the satin finish reflective. The imperfections are invisible, except from that particular conjunction of the bright light and speaker. The stands have some mild scuffing on the top plate, where the speaker sits, from moving the speakers on and off of them.

These were demo speakers for shows. Front of both speakers are flawless, as well as grills. All drivers perfect, and the speakers are functionally perfect in entirety. The speakers have not seen the normal audiophile use associated with daily listening, as I have had several speakers rotate through my system for reviewing. These speakers typically sell at a premium, and I have adjusted the price according to the condition and use of the speakers.

If it is important to you in the decision making process, I am selling due to funding upgrades of my preamp and amp. It is not out of displeasure with the Ulysses, but limited discretional funds forcing the sale. As a reviewer I wish to keep the entire system up to date, and it necessitates sale of items I do not wish to part with, but must let go in order to maintain a balance of newer components.

Please see my review of the Daedalus Ulysses at Dagogo.com in order to have a thorough understanding of the sound characteristics. The Ulysses is gorgeous in tonality and build, with extreme woodworking and custom crossovers internally. This is an extremely well received speaker, which was one of a handful to sound excellent at all the shows at which I heard it. It has been excellent in many systems I have established, whether using solid state or tube electronics. The Ulysses is higher efficiency in design, such that it mates well also with lower powered tube amps.

My colleague at Dagogo, Ed Momkus, also wrote up the Ulysses and was highly complementary. One can purchase the matching woofer units (Daedalus does not wish to call them subwoofers, but BOW, or Bass Optimization Woofers) which are a separate item available from Daedalus Audio; you can read about them in my article. Also, be aware that the speakers have a tweeter attenuation switch, which allows them to have more flexibility integrating in systems than speakers having conventional fixed crossover without capacity for attenuation of the tweeter.

Two features of the speaker I wish to point out are the dual soft dome tweeters, which carry the suppleness of a soft dome, but avoid being overwhelmed by the Mids, as with many soft dome speakers. The design using twin soft dome tweeters is advantageous, and avoids the harshness associated with ring radiator tweeters, as I have used them in the past. Also, this speaker reaches 28Hz on the low end +/-2dB, which is a superb measurement, far better than many offerings in the $15K category.

Seeking local sale ideally, but I do have the boxes and can ship if I must at buyer’s expense. I will only agree to a sale if the buyer agrees to a custom carrier, as I have had three sets of speakers destroyed by conventional shippers. The weight of the speakers shown is an estimate including both speakers, the boxes and pallet; I will finalize this detail if the speakers are shipped.

For serious inquiries only I will at my discretion give a demonstration. I can also provide additional pics of the cabinet if requested. I will only sell to continental U.SA. Lowball offers will receive no response. First full offer constitutes first offer, and I am not interested in trades. Buyer pays shipping. I accept Paypal (add 2% including shipping cost to total), cashier’s check or money order. I expect timely communication, and will endeavor to give the buyer the same courtesy. Please see my feedback, long term as well as short on Audiogon under douglas_schroeder. I will be able to give the buyer additional information on optimal setup of the speakers.
