The Sony ST-4950 is a very under rated tuner, it was in the line that complimented the renowned VFET amp series (and matches those amps). This is the second from the top of the line; the main difference is that the 4950 did not have Dolby FM and the 5950 did.
This tuner has been mostly recapped and has a special custom shield built to keep interference from the transformer away from the tuning section (circled in the photo of the inside), both the inside of the top and bottom were damped, and the top also has carbon fiber strands glued over the transformer for dissipation of interference. The tuner was aligned five years ago by the previous owner. All of the lights work, it comes stock with an F connector, and has a variable as well as a fixed output… this is a very nice tuner.
