Bang & Olufsen (B&O) RX2 Turntable w/Soundsmith SMMC4 Cartridge - Fantastic!Of all the B&O products, I must say I really do like some of their tables the most. The look is sleek, modern, and unlike anything else around! To compliment the beautiful appearance is an unparalleled degree of design and engineering that brings together a fantastic sounding package. The RX2 is one of B&O's nicest pivoted arm designs and incorporates the most refined and advanced of their non-tangential arms. The effective mass is amazingly low and the arm has been optimized for use with the B&O cartridges. This turntable comes with a nearly new handmade Soundsmith cartridge that actually improves on the performance of the original B&O cartridge (the Soundsmith retails for $199 by itself!!). The combination of arm and cartridge is perfectly complimentary and the results are truly first class! This table does have an unmatched ability for tracking warped albums while always providing a wonderfully balanced and detailed sonic character. The staging is warm and open and the sound ever so musical! The suspension on this table is also quite noteworthy too. I have encountered very few tables as immune to their environment as this one is! A highly compliant pendulum spring suspension combined with the overall low mass assembly allows this table to track flawlessly even under the most adverse conditions. A popular dealer demonstration was to pound the closed dustcover with one's fist while a record is playing and barely hear any thumps or other signs of mistracking! Of course this wonderful performance does come in a gorgeous package. The low profile sides are a dark gray finish with a gorgeous thick brushed aluminum top plate. All functions are handled by several small soft touch buttons on the front right top area and a play/cut button that is integrated into the front of the base. The presentation proves quite sleek and modern with a truly clean and understated layout. Looks wise, the condition is really nice with only the usual scuffs and a minor crack on the top edge of the discover being the only flaws to be found. The crack I mentioned is hardly noticeable as the picture will show and doesn't seem to go all the way through the cover. Other than that, this is virtually mint! This turntable is truly gorgeous to behold, and a pleasure to operate and listen to. In the end, you don't want to miss out on this wonderful table from B&O!
