Here we have a rare teaming of two great companies- a Tannoy branded Micro Seiki direct drive turntable. The table itself is rare as well, it was only built for one year while MS was gearing up to hit the US market, the model is TM44DD. As you would expect from a upper level offering from Micro Seiki the build is terrific, the speed is rock solid and the looks are great. The table is manual, the controls are on the right side and work with sliders. The stock MS headshell was missing so we put a magnesium Audio Technica that has been cryo treated to keep up the good looks and performance. The sides of the AT headshell were painted black to mimic the look of the MS. The RCA plugs have been upgraded with MCS cryo treated, rhodium plated ends. The underside of the deck had some foam for damping, but we added our Dyna-Mat like damping and some slate tile pieces (circled in red) for even more damping and mass. The deck top and the bottom of the platter have been damped for enhanced performance. The top motor cover and bottom of the platter have also been painted with two different anti-EMI/RFI paints to keep the grungies away from the cartridge. There was extra shielding added to the inside to further isolate the motor from the tonearm and wires. The cartridge is a Grado F1+ with a cryo treated lightly used Blue stylus. There is no dustcover. Of course the pots have been treated with DeOxit and it is a smooth operator. The turntable sounds fantastic for the very reasonable offering price!
